We first meet the narrator in a state of extreme confusion. She has long felt followed, spied upon. At first she suspected her husband of being a murderer and attempting to kill her. Now that he has fallen over the balcony, she doesn't know what to think any longer... Paralysed by terror, she confides her uneasiness to notebooks : Writing sometimes in the first person and sometimes as if she were a bystander, in a kind of schizophrenic splitting of her personality.
With great clinical precision and a care about detail that is characteristic of her writing, Gisèle Fournier draws the portrait of a women slowly sinking into depression.
Gisèle Fournier lives in Geneva. She is the author of several novels published at Mercure de France, amongst which Perturbations and Ruptures.
